“Clutter is caused by a failure to return things to where they belong. Therefore, storage should reduce the effort needed to put things away, not the effort needed to get them out.” ― Marie Kondo
When looking for storage space in our homes, we often look past what is right in front of us.
We would all love a walk-in “Instagramable” pantry but it isn’t always feasible with space constraints. With some clever thinking, we have put some storage hacks together for your home to make the most of the available space.
First up is the hallway
It is essential to take the extra minute to hang up your coat and put your shoes away. It is too easy to come home after a long day, throw the coats on the banisters and the shoes at the door. With all family members following this simple step, a clutter free hallway within an organised home awaits!
Bags Upon Bags
Have you ever found yourself with bags upon bags….but nowhere to store them? This storage hack is suitable for any type of bag, from shopping bags to special occasion bags. To organise shopping bags, place all bags into a foldable triangular shape and pop them into a large bag. This keeps them tidy, and is a great space saver. For handbags and occasional bags, start off with picking three that you use most often. The bags that are not chosen should then be placed within one another. This means that the bags that were taking up space have now been compressed into one, and it can also help handbags to retain their shape.
Filing Cabinet Drawers
Working from home or having a home office means our homes are filled to the brim with paperwork, files and stationery. Without having a place to store these items it can quickly lead to chaos. We created an ‘office essentials’ drawer in the under stairs storage unit below. The drawer itself can hold up to 35kg in weight meaning it can hold large amounts of files without taking up too much floor space.
When it comes to storage we often think of boxes and labels but this doesn’t mean that we can’t have a stylish piece of furniture that also acts as a storage haven. More and more we see stylish book shelves, units and our understairs storage in homes that appear as a stylish home feature but also act as a storage haven.
